F.A.Q.

Below you will find answers to the questions we get asked the most about what the heck we do here…

  • MOSH isn’t your average optical store.

We're always delighted to see you if you happen to stop by but it is difficult for us to accommodate walk-ins as a single-optician boutique. An appointment assures you get quality time with Sara during your visit along with every bit of her 20+ years of knowledge, style and attention to detail. Your time is valuable. We want you to have the personalized atelier experience you deserve!

Our hours can change so be sure to look online first.

We look forward to ‘seeing’ you! (Aaahhhh, we love our optical puns).

  • We are the anti-online store. We believe that an in-person experience ensures the best fitting eyewear, greatest value and the most fun!

Eyewear is all about the millimeters and a superior fit is essential to a stellar looking pair of eyewear. Frames are like a designer suit: if it’s not tailored well, it’s not going to look good regardless of how much it cost.

We’ve got over 20 years of experience and specialized expertise through our framemaking talents. We care about making a long-term relationship with you, not just a one time sale. Your eyewear will require maintenance and servicing throughout their life and you can always count on us for assistance.

  • We use Shamir, Essilor, Zeiss, Rodenstock, Kodak and Centennial lenses. Our lens products have been carefully researched and tested to help us choose the best one for you. We also have our own on-site lens edging lab and workshop to ensure the best quality work.

  • We do not. However, we work closely with some great optometrists in the city and are happy to recommend them to you.

You don’t need a prescription to shop for eyewear. We can help you choose a super awesome frame and take all of the detailed measurements we need. Then, once you get your prescription you can email us a copy and we can get lenses started.

  • Yes and No.

Yes – we love making our MOSHdesigns frames and look forward to creating a customised frame for you from our collection! You can create your own pair by selecting any one of our available shapes and then choosing the colour, finish and various other add-ons. We have over 400 material pieces to choose from so there are oodles of colour options. We can also modify the sizing so your new frames fit really well.

No - We are not taking any orders for one-off custom/bespoke pieces at this time, we are only making our own MOSHdesigns shapes. We do however, host framemaking workshops where you can come and create your own piece. The coolest. Read more about our workshops here: https://www.moshframemakers.com/workshops

  • Bespoke starts as something that doesn’t exist in the world yet. It is created from your mind, concept, idea, design: it is then “(be)spoken” into reality. Unlike an off-the-rack or made-to-measure piece, a bespoke item considers every angle, line and detail through multiple consultations and fittings.

‘Bespoke’ and ‘custom’ are often used interchangeably with bespoke mostly being used in fashion.

  • No. We work exclusively with acetate plastic.

  • No - We are not taking any orders for replica pieces at this time. We are only making our own MOSHdesigns shapes.

However, if you email us a picture of your previous pair, we may have something in our pattern catalogue that is similar!

  • We may be able to help you create a prototype.

We are not set up for mass production so you will need to source a manufacturing facility if you want to get into designing a collection to sell wholesale to other retailers. There are 2 large optical trade fairs in the USA called Vision Expo, as well as various other optical fairs around the world that are good for connecting with industry contacts and manufacturing companies.

  • No. Because we craft each pair by hand it’s impossible to make enough to sell on a wholesale level - plus, no two are alike (the beauty in a handmade product is its subtle asymmetry). It’s more a passion we have for the craft and the art of handmade, and is born from a desire to be able to create something one of a kind, by hand for our clients.
